Nutty Heart

Nuts are rich in heart-healthy fats, antioxidants, phytosterols, protein, and fiber and thus key players in heart disease prevention. Large studies have shown that the regular consumption of nuts is associated with a reduced risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes; a known risk factor for heart disease. We are always encouraged to choose nuts at snack time. They’re high in protein and fiber; therefore they make a great afternoon snack that can increase satiety.

Zimbabwe is largely endowed by a variety of nuts ranging from groundnuts, groundnuts, pecan nuts among others. Pecan nuts are highly recommended for heart diseases as they are are high in fiber and antioxidants such as vitamin E and contain the most omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) of all nuts.

So make nuts a part of your daily diet, either as a snack or use them in your cooking. They are not only a great source of nutrients, they are also tasty, convenient and can be incorporated into any type of diet. As we have discussed eating nuts as part of a healthy diet may also be good for your heart.
